Deion Sanders gives ‘playoff’ bound Packers some love
The Green Bay Packers are going to the playoffs.
Book it.
Well, maybe not so fast.
Even though the Packers have gotten off to an impressive 4-1 start under first-year head coach Matt LaFleur, there are still plenty of regular-season games to be played. Eleven, to be precise.
But barring a total meltdown, the Packers appear poised to snap their two-season playoff drought. Recent history indicates that. Since 2010, there have been 39 teams that got off to 4-1 starts. Nearly three-fourths of those teams –29 –advanced to the playoffs.
What’s more, of those 39 teams that opened the season by winning four of their first five games, eight of them went all the way to the Super Bowl.
While we are months away from the 54th Super Bowl — Feb. 2, 2020 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami — the Packers look like an elite team. They were particularly impressive last Sunday when they dominated most of the game in a 34-24 victory over the Cowboys in Dallas.
The Packers’ convincing victory certainly made a distinct impression on Deion Sanders, the hall of fame cornerback who played five seasons for the ‘Boys.
When asked earlier this week for his takes on the Green Bay-Dallas encounter, “Prime Time’’ spoke glowingly about the Packers.
“Green Bay is pretty darn good,’’ said Sanders, an eight-time Pro Bowl selection who now collects a paycheck from the NFL Network “Let’s stop the nonsense, man. They got a running game. … their defense is ranked among the top 10 and then you have Aaron Rodgers to top it off. These guys can play.
“So, before we start finding holes in the Cowboys and who let them down: Was it the offense? Was it the defense? You’ll find a way to blame Jerry (Jones) and Jason (Garrett).
“But give the Green Bay Packers some darn credit. They are among the best in the NFC.’’
