Zielinski III: Lions’ high-powered offense will cause fits for Packers
BY DAN ZIELINSKI III
The Green Bay Packers face a critical test Sunday against the Detroit Lions in a matchup with significant playoff implications. While the Milwaukee Brewers have dominated the local sports conversation with their World Series run, this NFC North showdown deserves plenty of attention.
Green Bay enters riding a three-game winning streak, allowing just 11.3 points per game during that stretch. Its aggressive defense under under Jonathan Gannon has generated nine interceptions, tied for the league lead, and consistently pressured opposing quarterbacks. However, Detroit presents a different challenge.
Jared Goff has been remarkably efficient, and the Lions possess one of the NFL’s most explosive offenses. Jahmyr Gibbs also poses a significant threat, especially after Green Bay struggled to contain Atlanta’s Bijan Robinson in Week 3.
The Packers have a favorable passing matchup against a Detroit defense that has struggled to contain opposing passing attacks. Matthew Golden and Christian Watson could play pivotal roles in exploiting those weaknesses. Still, I expect limited defensive resistance on either side, making this a game that comes down to execution and which offense makes the most decisive plays.
Green Bay’s decision to bring back Josh Jacobs after his off-field legal troubles also carries reputational risks, putting added pressure on the team to deliver results.
Ultimately, Detroit’s offensive firepower proves too much. The Packers keep it close but fall short in a hard-fought loss.
WHAT THE ODDSMAKERS ARE SAYING: Lions are favored by 3.5 points.
WHAT DZ IS SAYING: Lions 31, Packers 28
