Zielinski III: Cowboys are just a tad better than Packers

By DAN ZIELINSKI III
The Green Bay Packers have been Wisconsin’s preeminent sports team for decades, but the Milwaukee Brewers have temporarily stolen the spotlight as they chase their first World Series title. The Packers will look to reclaim some of that attention Sunday night when they host the Dallas Cowboys at Lambeau Field, hoping to build on last week’s blowout victory over the Chicago Bears.
While the spotlight might be elsewhere, expectations remain high in Green Bay. However, the Cowboys have an opportunity to steal a road victory and remind everyone they remain a dangerous team despite last week’s embarrassing loss to Tampa Bay.
Dallas has the offensive firepower to challenge Green Bay, with Dak Prescott, Javonte Williams, CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens capable of producing explosive plays. Prescott will need to find his rhythm against a Packers defense that continues to generate pressure despite significant injuries, including the absence of Micah Parsons. Green Bay’s secondary has also been productive, tying for the league lead with seven interceptions.
On the other side, the Cowboys must find a way to slow Jordan Love and his receiving weapons. Christian Watson, Matthew Golden and Tucker Kraft can exploit a Dallas defense that has struggled throughout the season. Still, the Packers’ offensive inconsistency gives the visitors an opportunity to stay within striking distance.
Lambeau Field has historically been a difficult place for opponents to win, but Dallas has the talent to overcome the challenge. Expect a high-scoring, back-and-forth contest in which Prescott and the Cowboys make enough plays late to pull off a narrow upset.
WHAT THE ODDSMAKERS ARE SAYING: Packers are favored by 1 point.
WHAT DZ’S SAYING: Cowboys 31, Packers 30.
