Zielinski: Packers will answer the bell
By DAN ZIEINSKI
LThe Green Bay Packers face the Houston Texans in a highly anticipated Week 7 matchup at Lambeau Field. Both teams come into the game with exciting young quarterbacks, Jordan Love for the Packers and C.J. Stroud for the Texans. Stroud has been particularly impressive, leading a Texans offense that remains dangerous despite being without key players like wide receiver Nico Collins.
The Texans boast a balanced attack featuring running back Joe Mixon, a formidable offensive line and a receiver in Stefon Diggs, who has given the Packers trouble in past matchups. On defense, Houston’s pass rush, led by Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter, can disrupt any quarterback. Cornerback Derek Stingley Jr. is a player Green Bay’s offense will need to account for.
However, the Packers are coming off a strong offensive performance and appear to be hitting their stride, with Love leading a rejuvenated attack. Green Bay’s defense, which ranks in the top 10 against the run, could make Houston’s offense one-dimensional. The Packers will have the upper hand if they can contain Mixon and force Stroud to beat them through the air without his top target.
While the Texans have won nine of their last 12 regular season games, their injuries on defense could be crucial. The Packers’ offense is healthy and starting to click, and the Packers’ playmakers, including running back Josh Jacobs, could take advantage of the Texans’ vulnerable run defense. This game has the potential to be a high-scoring affair, with both teams trading blows in the air.
Ultimately, in what could be a back-and-forth shootout, expect coach Matt LaFleur’s Packers to pull out a narrow victory. A late field goal or touchdown might be the difference, as Green Bay captures their first signature win of 2024 in front of their home crowd.
Prediction: Packers 31, Texans 27
