Rodgers still has the magic touch
By GERY WOELFEL
Aaron Rodgers has fashioned some incredible seasons during his glorious NFL career.
The fact he’s been a four-time NFL Most Valuable Player is a testament to his greatness.
Just weeks away from turning 42 years old — his birthday is Dec. 2 — Rodgers may never win another MVP award. Then again, he just might this season.
Rodgers is off to a stellar start and clearly showing he still has plenty left in his tank. Statistically, his numbers are impressive.
- He’s passed for 14 touchdowns – the fifth most in the NFL this season.
- He’s completed 68.5 percent of his passes – eighth best in the league and the fourth-best of his illustrious 21-year pro career.
- His passing rating is 105.0 – the 10th best in the league.
Yes, Rodgers, who’ll be facing his old team the Packers on Sunday night in Pittsburgh, is performing at a high level.
He has been especially hot in the last four games with completion percentages of 69.6, 81.8, 70.0 and 67.7.
In that same four-game span, Rodgers has thrown nine touchdown passes and three interceptions.
What Rodgers is doing these days is special, especially since his supporting cast isn’t laden with future Hall of Famers. To wit:
The Steelers primary running back is Jaylen Warren, an average player.
The Steelers tight end is Jonnu Smith, another average player.
His receiving corps consists of DK Metcalf (a very good player), Calvin Austin (an average player) and Roman Wilson (an average player).
Yet, somehow, some way, Rodgers has guided the Steelers to a 4-2 record. That’s the fourth-best record in the ultra-competitive AFC.
Rodgers isn’t the elite player he was while playing for the Packers, but he’s still damn good.
WHAT THE ODDSMAKERS ARE SAYING: The Packers are 3-point favorites against the Steelers.
GW’S PREDICTION: Packers 27, Steelers 24.
