Tapp-ing into the Numbers: 40 Packers Stats Until Opening Kickoff (No. 37)

The Green Bay Packers open the 2017 season at home against the Seattle Seahawks on September 10. It is the first time the Pack will be opening the season at home since 2012 when they lost to the San Francisco 49ers, 30-22.

Here’s a handful of stats about the Packers first game of the season since the start of the Super Bowl era in 1966.

• Since 1966, Green Bay is 29-21-1 in the first week of the season. They have won their last two opening games and are 7-3 in their last 10 Week #1 games.
• The last four season-opening games have been on the road; the Pack was 2-2 in those contests.
• The Packers are 10-5 in Week #1 games on the road since 1966 and 19-16-1 in Week #1 home games.
• Green Bay is 6-4 in the last 10 Week #1 games played at home.
• The Pack’s largest margin of victory in Week #1 in the Super Bowl era was a 34-3 win over Tampa Bay in 1996. Sixteen of the 29 Week #1 wins since ’66 were by less than 10 points.
• The Pack’s biggest margin of loss in Week #1 since 1966 was a 40-point loss to Detroit in 1970. Ten of the Pack’s 21 losses in Week #1 since ’66 have been by less than 10 points.
• In the 17 Week #1 games since 2000, 12 were decided by eight points or less.
• The Packers also opened a season versus the Seahawks in 2014. That was a 36-16 loss to Seattle.
• The September 10, 2017 opener versus Seattle will start at 3:25 p.m. The Packers are 8-6 in Week 1 games since 1966 that have started after 3 p,m, local time.
• In the last 10 Week 1 games played by the Packers, nine were decided by eight points or less, and the average margin of victory (by the Packers or their opponents) was 7.5 points. It probably means we can expect a close contest on September 10 versus the Seahawks.
